Son of LeBron James Becomes First Player to Be Drafted by Team of Father

The Los Angeles Lakers have selected guard Bronny James with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. James, the eldest son of superstar LeBron James, becomes the first player to be drafted by the same team as his father.

James, 19, was informed of the Lakers' decision with a phone call from general manager Rob Pelinka. He worked out for only two teams leading up to the draft, the Lakers and the Phoenix Suns.

The Lakers, who have not made the playoffs since 2021, are hoping that James can help them return to contention. James is a 6-foot-3 guard who is known for his athleticism and playmaking ability.

James' first time on the court in a Lakers uniform could come on July 6, when the Lakers open a three-game summer league schedule in Las Vegas.
