Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by 41 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday. Batting first, Pakistan scored 262/8 in their allotted 50 overs, with Imam-ul-Haq top-scoring with 89 runs. Afghanistan were bowled out for 221 in 49.2 overs, with Rashid Khan making 53 runs. Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, taking 4-46.
The win gives Pakistan a 1-0 lead in the series. The second ODI will be played on Thursday, August 24, at the same venue.
